Cleanse the wound site thoroughly according to standard medical procedures. Select a dressing size that extends at least one inch beyond the wound margins. Remove the protective release paper from the adhesive side, minimize finger contact with the adhesive, and center the dressing over the wound. Gently press the edges down to ensure proper adhesion. Leave the dressing in place for up to seven days, or change earlier if the gel bubble reaches the dressing border or if leakage occurs.
Generic Hydrocolloid polymers, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, gelatin, pectin, adhesive polymer matrix, polyurethane foam backing layer.
These are the best way to heal any open sore or wound. They are the only one that I would use after skin cancer treatments or biopsies that leave an open wound, on pressure sores, or any draining wound (clear fluid with a yellowish hue that drains out of the wound site), I will typically have a 1 inch open wound that will take about 3 months or so to heal (leg) but with these it takes less than 2 months. Roughly, it cuts healing time by 30-50%. While they cost more than regular bandages, you only need one of these a week and so they cost the same or little less than regular large bandages, especially when you consider that the healing time is cut down by almost half. Buy a size that will give you about an inch edge outside the wound area. I you have a more superficial, non-draining wound you can cut these into four 2x2 (you should have at least 1/2 inch edge outside the wound for it to stay on well. These seem to stay on better, last longer, are less irritating, less likely to leak, and can be cut up easier than the thin version (I have used both). Use these for at least 5-7 days at a time and you may notice that the bandage gets a little puffy and white over the wound area which is normal. You can take shower with these on. When you take this off, it will seem "icky" but just throw it away, clean up the area around the wound, take a show and let water go over it, and afterwards when dry, apply a new DuoDerm dressing. The reason these work so well is they allow your body to produce the optimal environment for skin healing. I use the Convatec brand as they were the creators of DuoDerm and seem to have the best CGF rather than any of the generics and they were only a little more expensive. At any rate they are well worth the cost. They are a must for any open wound, especially in the elderly or for those on the leg or arm (the further away from the heart, the longer healing time). Can't recommend these highly enough. They are a must for any significant open wound.
I've been using these for years to hold down a pain patch that doesn't appreciate to stick, and I don't give a mouse fart in a high wind what the manufacturer says about being able to reapply the patch if it falls off or peels up, my experience has been that once you lose that initial "stick" to your skin and it gets that whitish film on the skin side the thing doesn't work for crap anymore so you've GOT to keep that seal intact - and if you get water behind there, forget it, so you gotta have waterproof. It's just there to stabilize the film during application, the open middle is so you can see what you're doing). Easier for someone else to apply rather than trying to stick it onto yourself. Last I remove the white frame from the face (almost died laughing once when I saw one poor devil at my pain clinic with that sizable white box on his arm, he didn't know you were supposed to take that part off! :) I take my medication patch out of its package and carefully center it on the Tegaderm, backing side up, then lay the Tegaderm backing backside down on the sticky front to make a "sandwich" and rub it nicely to adhere the parts together. I peel the backing off the Tegaderm and lay it down on a table or counter, sticky side up obviously. If you tend to have major skin reactions to adhesives, you may wish to buy a single dressing locally to test before investing in a larger shipment here so they do not go to waste if you do have a difficulty. Make sure you rotate your placement locations to avoid skin damage. I did also try 4" expansive Medfix and Hypafix tapes, but it was a hassle to utilize, I genuinely needed three hands. Since I'm on a 48-hour change schedule I can just remember whether I'm on odd- or even-numbered days that month but if you're on a 72-hour schedule you might want to write your change day on the patch with a Sharpie marker before you lay it down on the Tegaderm. My insurance does not cover these since they are considered a "convenience piece" (if the people making those rules had to wear these dadblamed patches they would probably think otherwise, they're lifesavers for me but they're still a pain in the patoot) so the cost is very crucial. By the way, I find it easiest to remove these painlessly if I peel it so it folds back against itself. - and slap the combination patch-and-dressing in place. Pulling it straight out stretches the skin and huuuuuuurts.I have a little trick to applying these with my patches, since I live alone and don't have help to stick it on properly I often got them crooked or wrinkled when applying onto a patch that's already in place, chiefly on an arm, and somehow a wrinkled Tegaderm itches more. Tegaderms stick effectively even when I get sweaty in the summer, as long as skin is dry, clean and unpowdered when the Tegaderm is applied, as nicely as after an hour in a heavily-chlorinated rehab pool or a long soak in an epsom-salt bath, but they don't rip the dickens out of my skin when I peel one off every 2 days. Tegaderm does not adhere nicely to skin that is incredibly hairy (do NOT shave the area, apply clippers to clip hair down to the skin), dirty (wash with mild soap and rinse very effectively), damp (try a blow dryer on no-heat setting), or has anything on it such as powder or lotion (wait to use that until after you have your dressing in place). - from a brick and mortar medical supply store it was just ridiculous at nearly three dollars apiece, but here it's very reasonable, so I've made sure to tell my doctors and nurses to pass on to patients who use Tegaderms - or worse, are struggling with adhesive tape that just doesn't The amount charged for this 4x4.75" measurements at the drugstore was downright sinful - ten bucks for a box of two! That's just me and adhesives. After I remove the patch and dressing, I apply some cortisone or Benadryl cream (or both) to the place where it was if the itch persists. Then I remove the two backings - make sure you get both!! I first encountered Tegaderms when Janssen used to send them out to Duragesic users, but the companies making the generics are too cheap to send them; I tried the cheaper knockoffs, the store brands that still cost more than buying Tegaderms here, and the more expensive Bioclusives and keep coming back to solid previous real Tegaderms. Oily-skinned people may want to try cleaning the area with rubbing alcohol beforehand and allowing skin to dry COMPLETELY before applying (this is what my doctor told me to do, check with your own doctor or pharmacist if you have concerns), or using a skin prep piece. My only real problem with these, and not absolutely plenty to knock off a star, is occasionally it will itch like a stinker. Scratching doesn't get through very well, but lightly tapping or slapping the area relieves the itch somewhat, and it does go away. Some people do better using a "skin prep" article under the Tegaderm but I tend to have problems with getting the prep on the place where the medicatio...
This product is a godsend for those of us who develop venous stasis ulcers due to CVI.I was diagnosed with CVI (Chronic Venous Insufficiency) a year ago but I've been struggling with some of the more troublesome side effects of that condition for several years: venous stasis ulcers, usually much worse in the summer. CVI usually affects the lower legs - the valves in the veins stop working, and blood pools in the calf and ankle. The tissue eventually breaks down, and ulcers develop on the surface. Some folks like me get it in both legs; others in just one. Last year's episode resulted in cellulitis, and 6 weeks of treatment at the wound healing center. I vowed never to go down that path again and followed the Dr's recommendations as to ongoing care (compression knee-highs, etc.).Despite my best efforts (100% compliance/etc.), I again developed a rather impressive set of large ulcers this summer involving both legs. DuoDerm was recommended by a friend in a CVI support group, so I decided to give it a try before calling the center.Applied the patches, cutting to fit where needed, left them in place for 3 days, then removed them after a shower.Unbelievable!! Ulcers were about 80% healed. There were a few nickel-sized raw/weepy spots left, but everything else was fresh clear pink healthy skin. I had been nursing these ulcers along for 6 weeks using bandages and antiseptic sprays with no discernable effect, and in 3 days, DuoDerm had nearly obliterated them.I'm absolutely sold on this product. Seriously, it far exceeded my expectations. I was anticipating maybe some slight improvement, but this was nearly miraculous. So, based on my experience, here are a few tips:1) DO NOT use these as a "change every day"-type dressing. That's not what it's designed for. You need to leave the patch(es) in place for AT LEAST 2-3 days -- instructions say you can leave them in place for up to a week. I changed mine at 3 days only because my ulcers were really "weepy," and .. well ... I could tell by the looks of things that the dressings needed to be changed. They absorb fluid and can hold only so much. So don't slap one of these on and try to change it the next day -- the glue is REALLY sticky and it will likely cause some problems. If you leave it alone until it's ready to come off, it should come off nearly painlessly, with only slight "tug" of the skin around the wound.2) Don't be surprised if the wound starts to itch -- a LOT. I didn't notice any itching *around* the ulcers, but the ulcers themselves tingled and itched. That's the dressing doing it's thing. It was even more noticeable on the second application since there was a lot of new skin in the area and the wound itself was shallower than before. It REALLY itched ... a lot. I have some problems with adhesives and allergies (I get hives/rash/blisters from most Band-Aid products, for example), and this is NOT like that. It's not the skin around the ulcers that is itching so much as the ulcers themselves. Just be prepared.3) As always, SEE YOUR DOCTOR if anything comes up that seems or feels out of whack. I was concerned about the itching but found out that it's a fairly common "side effect." But any redness, rash, etc. should be seen by a doctor ASAP. These don't have latex in them, but you might still have some problems with the adhesive.Bottom line: I'm keeping these on hand from now on as a first line of defense against venous stasis ulcers. The price here on Dropy varies from seller to seller, so definitely "shop around" -- I look for "fulfilled by Dropy" to get the best service, even if I have to pay a few cents more per patch.
I trust this manufacturer. TY for making a excellent item. It's NOT woven gauze that sticks to a wound, it's soft sterile sponges which I had to have for wound tx after surgery.
Excellent item. Quick delivery.
FAQs
What is Duoderm hydrocolloid dressing used for?
DuoDERM hydrocolloid dressing is used to manage partial and full thickness wounds, including pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, superficial burns, donor sites, and post operative surgical wounds. It reacts with wound moisture to create a protective gel matrix that supports a moist healing environment.
How long does a Duoderm patch last?
A DuoDERM dressing can effectively be left in place for up to seven days. The exact wear time depends on the amount of wound exudate and moisture levels, and it should be changed sooner if leakage occurs or if the gel gel matrix reaches the edge of the patch.
Does Duoderm heal wounds faster?
Yes, by maintaining a moist wound healing environment, DuoDERM helps accelerate the healing rate, improves epithelialization, and protects newly formed skin tissue. This advanced environment also supports autolytic debridement, allowing natural enzymes to clean the wound bed.
Is this ConvaTec DuoDERM dressing an authentic USA import available in India?
Yes, this ConvaTec DuoDERM dressing is a fully authentic product sourced directly from the USA. Dropy India ensures that Indian consumers receive genuine medical grade imports in original packaging for reliable wound care management.
When should you not use Duoderm?
DuoDERM should not be used on individuals with known sensitivity to the dressing or its components. It is also not indicated for third degree burns or heavily infected wounds without close medical supervision and concurrent appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
