SPIRULINA RESEARCH 1/17/14SUE ROSS, MPASpirulina is a natural "algae" (cyanbacteria) powder that is remarkable high in protein and nutrients. It is also a source of potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, sodium and zinc. It's anti-inflammatory properties have been helpful to some of my clients with joint pain or other types of inflammation. Those with PKU should consult with a doctor before taking, as it does contain that amino acid. The phosphorous makes it useful for the tooth remineralizing regimen, and it is top taken with an Omega-3 source favor fermented cod liver oil. Those on any type of anti-coagulation medicine should consult with a doctor before beginning (or stopping) taking Spirulina. It is largely made up of protein and essential amino acids, and I typically propose it to clients who decide to remain vegetarian for its high natural iron content. Spirulina contains various pigments which may be beneficial and bioavailable".• Spirulina is also incredibly high in calcium with over 26 times the calcium in milk, making it outstanding for children, the elderly and during pregnancy.• Some research has suggested that Spirulina may be helpful in allergies and allergic reactions.• Spirulina's phosphorus content makes it helpful as part of a tooth remineralization regimen.• Emerging evidence suggests that it binds with radioactive isotopes and may be useful for radioactivity exposure or radiation therapy.• The protein in Spirulina is highly usable and has a net protein utilization rate of between 50-61%• Spirulina can bind with heavy metals in the body and help remove them.• Spirulina can increase fat burning during exercise.I invariably add Spirulina to my veggie smoothies each day and take extra during pregnancy. It does taste horrible though! When harvested correctly from non-contaminated ponds and bodies of water, it is one of the most potent nutrient sources available. It is best to get in about 2 teaspoons per day, and 2 or more tablespoons during illness, after radiation exposure, or during pregnancy. (I suspect that the benefits of GLA in Spirulina are even more than what the studies have noticed since these studies often utilize vegetable oils for their GLA source, and the other inflammatory compounds in vegetable oils can interfere with the anti-inflammatory ability.) It contains all essential amino acids.• Spirulina contains Omega 3-,6 and 9s and is especially high in Omega-3s.• Spirulina is extremely high in Chlorophyll, which helps remove toxins from the blood and boost the immune system.• Spirulina has a very high concentration of bio-available iron and is superb during pregnancy and for those with anemia and will not cause constipation.• Spirulina is a great source of other nutrients including (according to Wikipedia): "Spirulina contains vitamins B-1(thiamine), B-2 (riboflavin), B-3(nicotinamide), B-6 (pyridoxine), B-9 (folic acid), vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A and vitamin E. You can also mix into water and drink straight, though various people have trouble with this. It is frequently touted for its high B-12 content, though there is a lot of debate about if this particular form is a complete and absorbable form of B-12 and I don't recommend it completely in place of animal products. The high concentration of protein and iron also makes it ideal during pregnancy, after surgery, or anytime the immune system needs a boost.• Spirulina is 65% protein and amino acids including the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which has gotten a lot of attention for its anti-inflammatory properties, specifically when taken with other craftsmanship Omega-3 supplements favor Fermented Cod Liver Oil.

Remarkably decent supplement

Loved them at first but then they started to get a weird texture and taste. I've tried other ones from this maker and they've never had this problem before but maybe I just got a poor batch? Still would try them if you have a hard time getting all your greens in.

I have been taking this for a couple of weeks and so far it's going adequately. I tend to have a sensitive stomach, but this hasn't upset it at all. I think the taste is good, and I surely get a tropical lime vibe, but I appreciate it top when I add an instant lemonade packet to the mix. I enjoy the ingredients enough - not entirely clean, but relatively harmless. I think it's hard to tell if something am pleased with this functions unless you are consistent for a few months, but so far I am enjoying it! I appreciate knowing I'm getting more nutrients and probiotics in my day. In the pictures you can see how spacious the container is and how much item comes in it. This was before my first employ, so the product does settle, but it's all there and you only need 5 grams per serving.

This was my first time trying spirulina - got it for too high overall cholesterol (287) after blood panel. Place the pouch top side up on the wax paper and tamp down the powder as much as possible. This spirulina was just the opposite for me - it smells utterly horrible, but if you mix it with a sweet drink, it tastes just like the sweet drink tastes, yummy! Put your jar in the middle of the wax paper, and slowly pour the spirulina into the jar. You know how vanilla extract smells really truly good, but if you taste it as-is, doesn't taste nice at all? You can apply the wax paper as a funnel to pour any spilled stuff into the jar. Hope this helps! Take a pair of scissors, a medium size sheet of wax paper on your countertop, a small or medium broad-mouth jar and a measuring tablespoon. My next test is in November, so I marked my calendar to update my review if it helps or doesn't.I saw a lot of comments on messiness of this item and also on the taste and smell. First of all, accept the messiness and the fact that some of the spirulina will get all over everything, including you. I employ diet cranberry juice or sugar free lemonade. On to the messiness issues, this is what I do. Seal the jar, rinse the green stuff off your hands, wipe the jar off, and place your measuring tablespoon beside it on a smaller piece of wax paper on your countertop so you don't forget to drink it every day. Also drink lots of water after drinking the spirulina - this will help to avoid constipation that may occur in some folks. Carefully cut the top of the pouch just below the self-seal opening.
