My 7.5 y.o. son's experience with this alarm was as close to a miracle as we could have hoped for. It has been 8 weeks since we started using it, and we stopped using it altogether about 3 weeks ago with absolutely no relapse so far. We and my son are delighted with how quickly the alarm helped his body learn to stay dry over night.Prior to using the Malem alarm, my son would wet the bed nightly (or more) if we did not get him up twice during the night to use the toilet. He is a very deep sleeper, he would barely wake up when we had him go to the toilet, and he would not remember our having gotten him up when he woke in the morning. We were getting SO tired of having to get him up overnight. Our son was not terribly motivated to wear the alarm since he did not even remember being woken overnight to use the toilet. Thus, the motivation for him to stay dry came primarily from my husband and me. Fortunately, our son is relatively compliant, so he cooperated with the process pretty well.I understand how classical conditioning works, and I had confidence the alarm would work if it would wake my son, but I was worried that he would sleep right through it. I could not have been more wrong! It woke him every time, and it was aversive enough that the learning took place very quickly.The alarm is easy to use. The clips attach to the pajama top and underpants easily, and we had no trouble with them coming off despite my son moving around a lot in his sleep. They just clip on, so there's no problem with them making holes in the clothing from pins. With a little practice, my son mastered putting the alarm on and getting it off on his own.I will say that the first night was rough. The first night he wore the alarm, it went off after an hour or so. Our room is right next to his, and it jolted us out of bed. The alarm did wake him too, and in fact I would say it terrified him, as he cried and cried. This was very difficult for all of us, and I felt terrible about how scared he was by the alarm's vibration and loud siren. At first, he refused to put the alarm back on after using the toilet (the alarm is very sensitive, and it went off after just the tiniest amount of urine in his underpants--it didn't even make the bed wet at all, so the bedding didn't need to be changed). My husband and I had to console him and praise him for wearing the alarm for over an hour. We eventually resorted to bribing him (with a fun activity the next day) to put the alarm back on because he simply would not do so otherwise. At some point, he just got so tired that he complied. I know he didn't sleep very deeply the rest of the night, because he got himself up to use the toilet (which he had never done before). We also did not sleep at all that night because of fretting about having traumatized him and waiting for the alarm to go off again.For the next several nights, the alarm did not go off, as my son got himself up (sometimes twice a night) to go on his own. After just a couple of nights of this we no longer needed to offer an incentive to get him to wear the alarm. He no longer protested using it. Again, he's relatively compliant, so I might expect some children to need more in the way of an external incentive to get past this difficult point.The alarm did end up going off on 6 more occasions over the next 2.5 weeks, but it was much less traumatic when it did. Each time, the alarm went off immediately so that the bedding did not need to be changed. We simply helped my son get the alarm off (sometimes he would be disoriented and have trouble doing things in the right order), go to the toilet, and return to bed. Although he was disappointed that the alarm went off, he did not seem traumatized by it after the first night.After 2.5 weeks, there were absolutely NO MORE accidents. Most nights he would stay dry the whole night without getting up, and on a few nights he got himself up to use the toilet. We were very vigilant about having him wear the alarm for 14 nights after the last accident and then on alternating nights for 14 more nights after that. He was very excited when he reached those two milestones.It has now been 3 weeks since we stopped using the alarm. He has been dry every night. I cannot believe I'm saying this, but we now just take it for granted that he is going to make it through the night. It is SO nice to get a good night's sleep! This opens the door for sleep-overs, much easier travel, and just a normal 7-year-old life. I am so thankful for this alarm.Even though it feels like the night-time wetting issue is a now a problem of the past, I realize there's still a possibility of relapse. I feel confident, though, that if that were to happen it would only take a short time of wearing the alarm again to serve as a "booster." Just knowing that we have a good tool to use keeps me from worrying about the possibility of a relapse.As you know if you're reading these reviews, the alarm is not cheap. If I had known how well it would work

I had a highly motivated 9 year old daughter who had never had more than a handful of dry nights in her life. She's getting to the sleepover phase, and we were both worried about what to do. I hesitated to purchase this because it is pretty expensive and her pediatrician kept telling me "Alarms don't work....she'll grow out of it someday." But, finally, after reading a bunch of the reviews here, I ordered this. As so many other people have commented, I wish I had done it sooner!! My daughter wore the alarm starting in July over school vacation, and it woke her up twice a night for the first week. Yes, it was a tough week (for both of us). It was a bit like having a newborn again. I slept close enough to her room to hear the alarm when it went off, and it woke her up every time. I would go in to help her change underwear and re-attach the alarm, put a pull-up over the whole set-up and then we would both go back to sleep. By the second week, she was only wetting once a night, and by the third week, she could manage changing underwear and re-attaching the alarm herself. During the 4th week, she started having dry nights. It was like a miracle occurred! After 6 weeks, she was dry so regularly that we stopped using the alarm and also stopped putting a pull up over her underwear. It was truly a godsend.A couple of things that detractors have mentioned:1. Yes, this is a very simple alarm. It is like a telephone cord connected to a tiny plastic box. Yes, it is probably overpriced for what it is, parts-wise. But it WORKS, and I couldn't build one myself, so whatever it costs, it costs. I really can't put a price on my kid's self-confidence and happiness.2. People in other (earlier) reviews have talked about a huge safety pin that pins the alarm to the jammies and rips them and pinches the child. This is not the case anymore. The nice folks at Malem have evidently changed the design. The alarm clips securely and painlessly to the neckline of the pajamas. It is a bit cumbersome to sleep with, but my daughter got used to it, and after a couple of nights it didn't bother her anymore.3. My daughter woke up every single time the alarm went off. It's not super loud, but when it is clipped next to your head, it seemed to do the trick. I was afraid it would scare her a little, but it didn't. I don't think my daughter is really heavy sleeper, but soaking through the bed sheets and getting wet and cold never woke her up, and yet this alarm did.4. My daughter was very, very motivated. She was absolutely sick and tired and embarrassed of wearing pulls ups to bed. A couple of years ago, it didn't seem to bother her as much (even though it bothered me). This summer, she was ready to conquer her problem and was able to deal with the adjustments and minor discomforts of sleeping with the alarm.5. After reading other reviews and the product guide, I had fully prepared her that it could take 10-12 weeks to really see success, so she was not discouraged early on. As it turned out, she was "cured" much sooner than we had thought.My best advice is....Just go ahead and buy it! Your child will thank you and you will be SO happy when their bed wetting problem is resolved. Good luck and God Bless!
