Purex 4-In-1 Laundry Detergent Pacs Mountain Breeze Scented Fabric Brightening And Whitening Pre Measured Concentrated Pods 66 Count

I purchased the Purex 4-in-1 Laundry Detergent Packs (Fresh Mountain Breeze, 66 Packs) about six weeks ago to simplify my laundry routine for a household of three. I needed a detergent that could handle a mix of loads-everyday clothes, towels, bedding, and occasional stains-without breaking the bank. After using about half the tub across various wash cycles, here's my detailed take on its performance, including pros, cons, and tips for other shoppers. How I Used ItI've used these packs in a high-efficiency (HE) front-load washer for small to medium loads (6-8 pounds) and occasionally in a standard top-load machine at my parents' house. I typically toss one pack per load, as recommended for medium loads, and two for heavily soiled or large loads (e.g., king-size bedding). The loads included cotton t-shirts, jeans, bath towels, and some kids' clothes with light stains (grass, food). I've tested both cold and warm water settings to assess cleaning power and scent.ProsConvenient Packs: The pre-measured packs are a time-saver-no measuring or spilling liquid detergent. Just toss one in the drum, and you're done. They dissolve completely in both HE and standard washers, leaving no residue.Good Cleaning Power: The 4-in-1 formula (detergent, stain fighter, brightener, odor eliminator) handles everyday dirt and light stains well. My towels come out soft and clean, and grass stains on my kid's soccer shorts faded after one wash with a cold cycle.Pleasant Scent: The Fresh Mountain Breeze scent is clean and crisp, like a mix of linen and citrus. It's noticeable but not overpowering, lingering lightly on clothes after drying. My family enjoys the freshness, and it masks pet odors on our throw blankets.Great Value: With 66 packs, this tub lasts my household about 2-3 months (2-3 loads per week). At roughly $0.15-$0.20 per pack, it's more affordable than premium brands like Tide Pods, with comparable performance for routine laundry.Compact Storage: The tub is easy to store in my small laundry closet, and the child-safe lid is a plus with young kids around.ConsStruggles with Tough Stains: While great for light stains, the packs didn't fully remove set-in grease stains (e.g., cooking oil on a cotton shirt) or red wine on a white tablecloth, even with a warm cycle. I had to pre-treat with a stain remover for those.Scent May Fade: The Fresh Mountain Breeze scent is lovely post-wash but fades significantly after a few days in the drawer. If you prefer long-lasting fragrance, you might need to pair with a scented dryer sheet.Packs Can Stick Together: In humid conditions (my laundry room gets muggy), the packs sometimes clump in the tub, making it hard to separate them without tearing. Storing in a cool, dry place helps, but it's an annoyance. Not Ideal for Sensitive Skin: While my family had no issues, the fragrance might irritate those with sensitive skin or allergies. Purex offers a fragrance-free version, which I'd recommend for sensitive users.ComparisonsCompared to Tide Pods (Original), Purex is less effective on tough stains but costs about half as much per load, making it a better value for routine washes. Against liquid Purex detergent, the packs are pricier but far more convenient-no messy measuring. I've also tried Arm & Hammer packs, which are similar in price, but I prefer Purex's scent and slightly better cleaning power on colors. If you're debating between the 66-pac tub and the smaller 45-pac version, go for the 66-count for better per-pack savings unless storage space is tight.Tips for BuyersAdjust for Load Size: Use one pack for small/medium loads and two for large or heavily soiled loads (e.g., bedding or workout clothes). Overloading with one pack reduces cleaning effectiveness.Pre-Treat Stains: For grease or set-in stains, apply a stain remover or soak the item before washing to boost results.Store Properly: Keep the tub in a cool, dry spot to prevent packs from sticking. I transferred mine to an airtight container in humid weather.Test for Sensitivity: If you or your family have sensitive skin, try a small load first or opt for Purex's Free & Clear packs to avoid potential irritation.Who Should Buy This? These Purex 4-in-1 Packs are perfect for budget-conscious households needing a convenient, effective detergent for everyday laundry. They're ideal for light to moderate soils and families who enjoy a fresh scent. However, if you frequently deal with heavy stains or need a fragrance-free option, you might want to look elsewhere or supplement with a stain pre-treatment.Overall, I'm pleased with the Purex Packs for their ease of use and value. They've streamlined my laundry routine and kept our clothes fresh and clean. I'll likely repurchase unless I need a heavy-duty stain fighter. Have you tried these or found tricks for tough stains?
