FAQs
Is Baofeng walkie talkie legal in India?
In India, using ham radios like Baofeng models requires a valid Amateur Station Operator's License issued by the Wireless Planning and Coordination wing of the Ministry of Communications. Operating on amateur bands without a proper license or using unapproved frequencies is restricted by law.
How far will a Baofeng UV-5RM transmit?
The 10-watt power output allows transmission up to 10 miles or more under optimal, open conditions with a clear line of sight. However, actual range varies depending on terrain, buildings, dense foliage, and atmospheric interference.
Can a Baofeng listen to the police?
While Baofeng radios can scan a wide range of VHF and UHF frequencies, modern public safety and police communications in India often use encrypted digital systems. These analog radios cannot decode or listen to encrypted digital networks.
