FAQs
What is the best tool to remove ticks from dogs?
A specialized tick removal pen or tool is generally considered the best option. These tools, like the Bogeel pen, are designed to pull ticks out in a straight, steady motion without crushing the body, which helps avoid leaving mouthparts behind or squeezing fluids into the pet's skin.
Can I use tweezers to remove a tick from my dog?
Standard tweezers can sometimes crush the tick or twist its head off, causing more harm. It is safer to use a dedicated tick-catching pen that clamps securely and allows for a clean, straight vertical pull.
How do I ensure the tick is completely removed?
Position the tool directly at the base of the tick against the skin. Pull slowly and steadily upward. After removal, inspect the area to ensure no parts remain, then clean the site with an antiseptic and monitor for any redness.
