Product details
Description
Transform runny liquid resins and paints into a smooth, manageable, non-sagging putty with the Fasco Epoxies Cab-O-Sil Fumed Silica Thickener. Specially engineered with an amorphous, hydrophilic silicon dioxide structure, this high-performance thixotropic additive gives you complete control over viscosity for structural bonding, gap filling, and vertical seam repairs.
Whether you are working on custom epoxy laminates, marine projects, or silicone rubber reinforcement, this lightweight powder mixes seamlessly into polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy systems. It prevents undesirable run-off on overhead or vertical surfaces while imparting excellent hardness, tensile strength, and elongation properties to your finished mixture.
Ideal for fabricators, woodworkers, and DIY enthusiasts who demand professional-grade consistency and structural reliability.
How to use
- Gradually blend the fumed silica powder into your already-mixed resin and hardener system using low speed to avoid airborne dust.
- Continue stirring until you achieve your desired consistency, ranging from a smooth ketchup-like flow to a thick peanut butter texture depending on whether you are doing filleting or vertical gluing.
- Always wear a dust mask or respirator during handling and mixing due to the exceptionally fine and lightweight nature of the powder.

FAQs
What is fumed silica thickener used for?
Fumed silica is primarily used as a thixotropic thickening agent to increase the viscosity of liquid resins, paints, and epoxies. It prevents the mixture from sagging or running when applied to vertical or overhead surfaces.
What are the uses of Cab-O-Sil?
Cab-O-Sil is widely used in epoxy and polyester systems to create high-strength adhesive putties for gap filling, filleting, and structural bonding, as well as for reinforcing silicone and organic rubbers.
How much cabosil to use?
The amount depends on your target consistency. You should add the powder gradually into your mixed resin until you reach the desired viscosity, such as a paste for vertical joints or a thicker putty for structural fillets.
Are Dropy India products authentic and imported from the USA?
Yes, all products on Dropy India, including this imported USA item, are 100% authentic and sourced directly from the United States to ensure genuine quality.
What safety precautions are needed when mixing fumed silica?
Because the powder features an ultra-fine, lightweight sub-micron particle structure, you must always wear a proper dust mask or respirator during mixing to prevent inhaling airborne silica particles.
