Description
Foster a love for mathematics with the Hand2mind 20-Bead Wooden Rekenrek, an essential tool for young learners beginning their educational journey. Designed for children in preschool and elementary grades, this classic math manipulative provides a tactile and visual way to understand foundational concepts such as counting, addition, and subtraction.
Unlike traditional abacuses, the Rekenrek features a unique dual-row design with 10 beads per row, split into groups of five red and five white beads. This intentional arrangement encourages children to visualize numbers in groups of five and ten, rather than counting strictly by ones, which helps build vital subitizing skills and number sense.
Crafted from durable, eco-friendly wood, this compact counting frame is perfectly sized for small hands, making it an excellent addition to any homeschooling environment or classroom. Its sturdy construction ensures it remains a staple in your child's learning resources for years to come, providing a mess-free and engaging alternative to loose math counters.
How to use
- Place the Rekenrek on a flat surface in front of the student.
- To teach addition, slide a specific number of beads from the right side of the top row to the left.
- For example, to solve 3 plus 2, slide three red beads over, then slide two more.
- The student can then see that the total is five, represented by the color change.
- Use both rows to demonstrate numbers up to twenty.

Excellent for 1st grade!
Well made, with wood and metal parts. My 6y old / 1st grader uses it every day. I think it's really helping him to grasp math concepts. And it's small and unobtrusive. We love it.

A remarkably nice tool
This is a good tool. It's great to help kids look at numbers as groups rather than counting by ones, which is less efficient. Some kids learn better with something they can touch. I really like it. It's made well. It's a good size. Not too big or small.

basic and basic but does wonders for math skills
This items is pretty well made and wooden- good on hands, and light. I got a lot of mileage on it. Big enough for small hands and small enough for older kids too. I also got a fab price for it. I know there are more expensive ones, but it fit my budget, wants, and is simple and good to use.
