I'm pretty impressed with these bandages. Second is a good seal around the pad to prevent infection and to ensure that the dressing ointment (sterile petroleum jelly) stays in place. It's less obtrusive, as properly, and removes easily.I use island dressing for all his significant wounds for these reasons and would recommend nothing else. This fit the bill, being rectangular in shape. The bandages are more comfortable than all the tape tape layers wanted be applied and they hold effectively, even on short hair.In the case of this particular style piece, I was looking for something longer that could be folded to fit the crease behind my husband's ear. So, when caring for my husband's wounds, these have been a go-to after about a week of care to ensure all bleeding has stopped.They have a couple of advantages, the primary being that the sticky part is essentially like Medipore and does not damage or irritate skin. I make various little slit cuts into the tape area to help with "sculpting" the bandage around the curve of the ear and they work perfectly and stand up to a night's sleep, wearing glasses, and other daily "stuff" that could affect adhesion and comfort. First, is a non-adherent pad. What amazes me is that we have encountered quite a few medical professionals (ER, wound care nurses, derm nurses, and docs) who don't even know that such a thing exists and they wish their clinics stocked them. Typically, the surgical team will pack these wounds with non-adherent pads, maybe some gauze cushioning, and incredible amounts of Medipore tape.Some years ago, one of the practitioners introduced us to these "island" dressings, which can ultimately replace the pads, gauze, and tape. Important for anyone on blood thinners, with latex allergies, or any other sensitivities. I wish that same thing. Let me explain why: My husband has probably had at least 10 MOHs surgeries with varying degrees of depth and area and some different "closures." Some of them have been in "easy" places am pleased with the upper of his head or his nose (not pretty, but rather simple for wound care purposes - usually sutured). Some are in hard-to-reach places appreciate in the crease behind the ear, requiring some creativity for prolonged wound care. He finds it much more pleasant than the tape and pad approach. If you don't know about this, it can take up to 10 weeks or more for a cauterized wound to heal, requiring daily dressing changes.Appreciate many wounds, these come with a prescribed treatment protocol.

This worked rather solid for me, although the gauze is very fine, more like a fine netting than a gauze. I wanted sizable amounts of dressing for a wounded leg, and this did the job nicely, considering the value.
