  The most powerful supplement I own

  I was looking into using SAM-e as a cognitive enhancer and a mood booster, and I decided to try this product because of previous good experiences with Jarrow's products. When I first tried a tablet, I took it in the morning on an empty stomach (as you are supposed to). Within an hour, I felt such a warm sensation wash over me. I felt happier than I have in I don't know how long, especially since I had felt very dull and sort of depressed around that time. This effect lasted all day, and it also was stimulating in a way. I was having issues with sleepiness during the day, and the SAM-e seemed to really help me focus and stay alert. Unfortunately, it also made falling asleep harder at first.Over the next few days, I experienced some of the side-effects of SAM-e: slight insomnia, diarrhea, and intestinal upset. However, this went away completely after about a week, as did the insomnia. I will say that in the long term, my mood has been significantly better ever since starting SAM-e. I no longer get that feeling of "warmth", but I have been undoubtedly better off, and I do notice the reduction in mood when I don't take it. Besides overall mood, taking SAM-e has helped me a lot socially. Before, I would feel too robotic and uncaring at times to talk to people in a friendly manner sometimes. Now I'm more often talking to strangers and legitimately wanting to get to know people. It's as if the SAM-e helps me "feel" emotions better.One thing I wish still happened was the increased wakefulness, but I believe my overall cognition has improved in the long haul. Perhaps if I increase the dose, I can replicate what I felt the first day and for longer.Anyways, it's an amazing product and kudos to Jarrow for producing quality materials. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY!

  Wow.

  Wow. Just wow. I purchased this product with zero expectations. Come to think of it, I don't even remember where I learned about SAM-e and it's potential to help ease depression symptoms. I have (had?) fibromyalgia and was waking up every day since July of last year with the worst headaches and body aches imaginable. I had consistent brain fog that involved not remembering how to speak because I would have an inability to remember my internal vocabulary to form a sentence. I was seriously scared that I was going to lose my job. I started feeling depressed because I thought my entire life was going to be taken away from me due to this very misunderstood illness. I had purchased this brand of SAM-e last year and neglected to take it for more than a couple days because I honestly didn't think it would work. I was on my last leg and seriously ready to just give up everything when I decided to start taking them March 1st of this year. What harm could it do? I did my research on Clinical Pharmacology and figured the risks were fewer than the potential reward. All I can say is... wow. I never thought they would work as well as they do. After five days I noticed an immediate difference upon waking. I felt the fog lift literally and I could finally speak clearly at work. Every day I woke up, it felt easy. I no longer had pain. I no longer woke up with pounding headaches. I felt like I actually had refreshing sleep for the first time in months. I literally felt like a new person. After taking them for almost a month, I feel more confident in my ability. I'm going out and doing things more and taking more risks, and I feel my mood has been lifted. I do not feel like a zombie at all and I have a smile on my face most of the time. I have a history of depression so this is very odd for me. I would recommend this product to anyone that is having similar issues to what I was experiencing. I have no idea why it works but I know that it does and it saved my life and career. As for dosing, I started taking only one tablet once daily (200mg) in the morning with some water. After two weeks, I noticed that I had a slight headache upon waking again so I upped it to 400mg in the morning daily. You are supposed to take it on an empty stomach. I have been taking 400mg in the morning for the last two weeks and I still have the same great results. From my research, it is postulated that B vitamins are necessary to fully absorb the active ingredient, so I started taking a multivitamin every morning after I eat breakfast (after taking the SAM-e as soon as I wake up.) I have never experienced stomach pain from taking SAM-e. I am speculating that whatever neurotransmitter is being produced as the result of taking SAM-e is helping me sleep better at night. I get very tired very suddenly around 10pm every night since I have been taking SAM-e and I think it helps me get more refreshing sleep, which as a result means I wake up not feeling like I got hit by a bus. Take what you want from my review, but it seriously changed my life and I feel like I can accomplish everything I wanted out of life now. I hope my review can help someone else that is struggling from similar things that I was. I will update this post after I have taken SAM-e for six months.

  Certainly not bunk - effects may vary by individual

  I always do a fair bit of internet research before trying any new supplements, and decided to start taking SAM-e for its supposed mood enhancement properties (i.e. as a "alternative antidepressant" if you will). I have never suffered from debilitating clinical depression, where my ability to work or perform necessary daily functions has been affected. However, for as long as I can remember, ever since my teenage years my mood has wavered between complete apathy and general melancholy for 80% of my waking life.According to much of what I'd read, it typically takes a few days of taking SAM-e consistently on consecutive days for it to work. Thus, I had few expectations for the first time. However, it seemed to have immediate, salient effects on me, that I'm certain are not placebo since I expected to experience no effects until about a week in. Perhaps about 10-15 minutes after taking each pill every morning for the past few days, I feel what I can best describe as a mild warm energetic and slightly euphoric rush. It is very stimulating (perhaps too much) for me the first hour, and I feel compelled to get up and do something. It also increases my heart rate, and destroys my appetite and desire to eat breakfast. After the first hour, it mellows out and my mood is overall more positive for the next few hours.I'm not sure if the way this affects me is how it is supposed to be. I wish these came in 100mg tablets instead of 200mg, since they seem to affect me a bit strongly as it is. However, any substance or supplement I have ever taken in my life has affected me much more saliently than what's reported to be "normal". I just seem to be wired both physiologically and neurologically oversensitive. At any rate, I can confirm that this supplement works.EDIT 4/8/17: After a bit over a week of taking this SAM-e, I started breaking the pills in half and only taking ~100mg each morning. I had started to feel significantly more irritable and easily angered for no reason. After lowering the dosage, this increased irritability ebbed. I still found the immediate effects after dosing too stimulating, however, so I bought a pill cutter and cut it down to quarter pill (50mg) dosages. Much better. Just a reminder that box dosages may be a standard recommendation, but not the appropriate dosage for everyone.

  A Great Sam-E Supplement (but Your Mileage May Vary)

  I've always battled mild'ish depression and mild-to-severe anxiety. Many supplements may help ease depression and anxiety, but it often comes at the cost of having side-effects (e.g. unusual bowel movements). Such is also the case with Sam-e as many folks report a counter-intuitive increase in paranoia and/or anxiety. As the popular saying goes, "your mileage may vary" as the effects of Sam-E vary based on each individual's internal chemistry.Three years ago, I started taking the Nature's Made brand (very commonly found at a local pharmacy) for a short period of time. Folks online reported that effective combating of depression required about 800mg to 1600mg per day in order to see an effect. I was on this regimen for about two weeks and became EXTREMELY PARANOID AND ANXIOUS about the most irrational of things.About a month ago, I re-researched into Sam-E again. New information and user testimonials had come out over the last few years about differences in brand effectiveness, daily dosage, etc. As I alluded to before, some folks may need a high dosage like 1600mg to see a difference. However, I noticed that I only need a fraction of that amount in order to feel better.I started off with Nature's Made and took about a much lower dosage at 400mg (200mg in the morning and 200mg in the afternoon). I felt great after the morning dosage, but the increase in anxiety crept up shortly after the afternoon dosage. No paranoia this time around though. This forced me to think about scaling the daily dosage back to 200mg per day (once in the morning only). After doing so, I started feeling great!Additionally, I have been taking my Sam-E with a B-Complex in the morning. Per Dr. Andrew Weil (which you can search online and read for yourself), he recommends the following to be used alongside Sam-E: "Take a daily multivitamin supplement that provides 400 mcg of folic acid, at least 50 mg of vitamin B6 and 50 mcg of B12 (along with the rest of the B-complex)." Many folks also recommend that you stay very hydrated as another means of helping Sam-E do its job.Here are my experiences:-- I definitely feel more alert throughout the day and have had a happier, more optimistic inclination about the day-to-day stuff in life.-- Similarly, I notice that I don't need as much coffee during the day. Before Sam-E, I needed at least a few (large) cups per day. Now, one cup of coffee in the morning is more than enough.-- I definitely feel as if I sleep better and have more drive to get out of bed in the mornings. Like the Chicken or the Egg argument, I'm sure that getting a more restful night's of sleep is also helping me feel better throughout the day.-- I used to constantly fall asleep during Movies and TV shows in the early evenings. Sam-E has given me an extra boost of energy where I don't prematurely fall asleep.-- Although many have said that Sam-E doesn't drastically help with their anxiety, I noticed that by taming depression, my anxiety has also been reduced. For example, I have felt an increase in confidence; the extra spark of energy has allowed me to give off a healthier vibe towards others (e.g. constant smile, better at holding eye contact, less stuttering/flustering).-- I have also felt motivated to complete my (often mundane) day-to-day tasks, such as cleaning the house, doing the dishes, cook dinner, etc. Similarly, at work, I have seen an increase in successfully meeting my daily responsibilities since taking Sam-E.The downside to Sam-E is that it can be very expensive and not covered by any insurance since it's a vitamin supplement. This forced me to research into cheaper options for Sam-E. Luckily, the Jarrow's brand is highly raved by other Dropy users AND the price is substantially less than buying the Nature's Made version at a local store. I have felt the same positive effects from Jarrow's as I did when using Nature's Made. The only thing to beware is that a few people have said that the effects ARE different between the two brands (both positive and negative) - again, your mileage my vary.Also, Sam-E isn't a "magic bullet" solution. Sam-E can only do so much if you're out of shape and/or are sleep deprived. For example, I am a late-night owl and if I only get a few hours of sleep, I wake up feeling groggy (just as any normal person would). You have to be realistic about Sam-E; it can enable you to feel better but the problem won't entirely go away unless you choose to make other lifestyle changes.*BEWARE OF THE PACKAGING/SHIPPING*The last thing I wanted to point out is to beware of the packaging. I ordered my Jarrow's 200mg directly from Dropy and the packaging was EXTREMELY POOR; the vitamins were stuffed into a small bubble mailer that was clearly not protected from getting "squished." When it arrived, the box inside was compressed into half its size (presumably from having other packages sit on top of it) AND it caused half of the blister packs to break open (leaving the vitamins exposed into the air).
