FAQs
What is a stripping knife for dogs?
A stripping knife is a specialized grooming tool used to manually pull out dead undercoat and topcoat hairs from the root. It is designed for wire-haired and double-coated breeds to help maintain their natural coat texture without cutting the fur.
Is stripping painful for dogs?
When done correctly using proper technique, hand stripping is entirely painless. It targets dead, loose hair that releases easily from the follicle, especially when the skin is held taut during the pulling motion.
What is the difference between carding and stripping knives?
Carding removes the soft, dense undercoat and pulls out dead dander, whereas stripping focuses on removing the longer, dead wire topcoat from the root to allow a new, crisp coat to grow back.
