    A real step forward for mineral sunscreens

    I've used enough mineral sunscreens to stop expecting much. This year alone I've gone through around fifteen new formulas. Mineral sunscreens always ask for the same sacrifice: better filter profile, worse appearance. You wear them because they are sensible, not because they are flattering. This sunscreen changes that equation. La Roche-Posay somehow made a mineral sunscreen serum that actually improves how my skin looks. You heard that right. That is the part that caught me off guard. I do not reach for this in a dutiful, "I should put on SPF" way. I reach for it when I want my skin to look better. The finish has that a quality that reads expensive. My skin looks smoother, more refined, more radiant. There is a slight sheen if I apply generously, but it is a beautiful sheen, not the usual mineral sunscreen problem. It reads like health, hydration, and MONEY. It gives my skin a luxurious look, like I've spent a lifetime being protected from tough circumstances, stress, and sun. And then there is the wear. This is where the formula becomes doubly impressive. Mineral sunscreens usually sit on the face with a certain heaviness, no matter what, even the good ones, the very expensive ones. This one is remarkably breathable. It is the only mineral formula I have ever tried that does not turn wearing sunscreen into a visual or sensory compromise. On my face, it is light in the way a serum is light, not in the way sunscreen brands like to pretend everything is light. I am not going to insult anyone by claiming a mineral sunscreen can completely disappear. It doesn't. Mineral filters always leave some trace of themselves. But this one leaves behind something so cosmetically attractive that I reach for it look better. In fact, I'd go further: the finish is an upgrade to my looks. That is why this stands out. Not because it is "good for a mineral sunscreen." Not because it is "surprisingly wearable." Those are backhanded compliments. This is simply the best-looking sunscreens I've used, full stop. And the fact that it is mineral makes the result even more remarkable. La Roche-Posay did excellent work here.
