Radio, light, siren, and cell phone charger in one. Dynamo OR solar powered.

Surprisingly good radio reception! My favorite function is the ability to power a cell phone by winding the dynamo. Cell phones are so essential these days and there's a certain terror when you realize you not only don't have a charge, but also don't have a way of recharging... So I absolutely love that feature. Keep in mind you will need to keep whatever appropriate charging cable you need for YOUR phone handy because this thing, no matter how cool it is, does not charge through osmosis. You might consider taping a little envelope with a spare cable to this device. (Just a suggestion.)The other functions also work very well. There is a solar charger to top off the device's internal battery during the day so you don't HAVE to rely only on the "winding dynamo" feature. The radio has three bands: AM, FM and "Weather Band" and they all seem to work well enough. I am able to pick up regular channels surprisingly well using only the tiny, built in, extending antenna. There is also an LED flashlight, of course, which offers three different lighting levels. If you hold the "flashglight control" button down for a couple seconds then an alarm-sounding whooping siren turns on along with the flashlight blinking on and off.One feature that is missing is any kind of indicator to convey the fullness of (or lack of) charge of the internal battery. That's a pretty big oversight in a survival situation. I mean, yeah: you can crank the dynamo as needed, but it might be nicer to *know* how much charge you have so that you can manage your resources. The only real answer is to practice using the thing until the battery runs out and then experiment with how much cranking it takes to power the radio or light or a cell phone for how long, etc.Once you have played around with it then you can have a feel for how much charge you've got based on how you charged it and for how long, but a simple charge indicator could have gone a long way.

You can't beat the cost of this emergency radio. I treasure the hand-crank option - no power, no ...

WOW - this weather radio has everything you need for a very reasonable price. Similar radios in the local stores are more than double the price of this one. This can be charged or hand-cranked when you don't have access to electricity. You can listen to the radio, the weather, or use it as a flashlight or charger for your cell phone. It seems to be durable and made to last for several years. Just raise the antennae to pull in radio stations or a nearby weather station. The dials are very easy to use and there is no assembly required. Charge or crank it up and turn it on - that's it! The light is fairly bright on a full charge and I have used the radio for a few hours without needed to recharge. I do not think you will be disappointed if you pick up one or more of these. They make a great gift for kids or family members to keep in case of an emergency or to take on trips.

FAQs

What is the emergency radio with hand crank?

An emergency hand crank radio is a multi-functional portable receiver designed to function without standard electrical grid power. It utilizes a manual internal dynamo generator, solar panels, or rechargeable batteries to provide communication, lighting, and device charging during unexpected power failures or outdoor excursions.

What is the most reliable emergency radio?

A reliable emergency radio should feature multiple power options such as manual mechanical cranking, solar absorption, and traditional battery charging. It must also provide clear reception across standard frequencies, include bright signaling lights, and offer power bank capabilities to keep small devices functioning.

How long do hand crank radios last?

The operational duration depends on the method used to charge the internal battery. Generally, cranking the manual handle for a few minutes provides sufficient energy for up to fifteen minutes of radio playback or continuous flashlight usage, while a fully charged battery can run the radio for several hours.
