FAQs
What are soft pastel colors?
Soft pastels are dry artist materials made from pure powdered pigment held together with a binder. They offer a velvety application and exceptional blendability, making them ideal for expressive drawings and fine art.
What is the difference between oil pastel and soft pastel for beginners?
Soft pastels use a dry binder and provide a chalky, easily blendable texture that requires fixative after completion. Oil pastels contain oil and wax, resulting in a heavier, crayon-like texture that does not require a fixative.
Can these soft pastels be used on regular paper?
While they can be used on standard paper, soft pastels perform best on textured art paper, pastel paper, or heavy-weight sketch sheets. Textured surfaces help grip the dry pigment particles for better layering and retention.
