Murad is a brand that was huge for me two decades ago - then I'm not sure if I tuned out or the brand quieted. Maybe it's that I aged out of hormonal teen acne and now I'm in perimenopausal breakouts. Regardless I'm glad it's back in my life because my skin needs help. It's definitely combination skin, coming out of dry New Englander winter and spring into humid, no home AC summer weather. Add on that my skin is... "maturing" and I've got dark spots popping up. My skin is also very sensitive, so trial/travel size products are perfect. This has lasted 2 weeks with some to spare for sure. My skin is looking more loved - nothing overly dramatic, but plumper, more radiant. Spots it hasn't been long enough to see change (but they don't look worse!). If you're like me: trying to find a good, simple, skincare system from a trusted brand, this may be worth the try! But Murad if you're reading this: the bag is so cute and I LOVE the color, but if you must do the logo on the outside, do it as a tone-on-tone embroidery, or do an interior logo liner ans make the outside look more retail.

The Murad Core Essentials kit makes a great introduction to a complete skincare routine and comes beautifully presented in a soft green travel pouch with plenty of room for the five products and additional essentials. The included information card clearly explains which products are intended for morning, evening, and twice-daily use, making the routine simple to follow. The Essential C Cleanser has a bright citrus scent and leaves my skin feeling clean, smooth, and refreshed. The Rapid Dark Spot Correcting Serum has a lightweight gel texture that spreads easily, absorbs quickly, and works beautifully as part of a targeted skincare routine. The AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser provides a thorough cleansing and exfoliating experience, while the Retinol Youth Renewal Serum has a smooth texture, pleasant floral scent, and absorbs nicely into the skin. The Nutrient-Charged Water Gel is lightweight, fast absorbing, and leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. I also appreciate the convenient travel sizes, easy-to-use pumps, thoughtful product selection, and cruelty-free formulation. Overall, this is a well-curated skincare set that offers a convenient way to enjoy a complete Murad routine at home or while traveling, and I'm very happy with the selection and presentation.

The set is contained in a beautiful, velvety green travel bag which is super high quality, and offers an amazing beginning regimen to target dark spots, fine lines and general dullness. I like the idea of using each of these powerful ingredients one time, one night or two treatments alternating, one in the morning and one at night, a refreshing, citrus smelling essential cleanser, and a dark spot serum in the morning and an AHA/BHA exfoliating face wash, and a gentle retinol serum in the evening. The absolute best is the Nutrient Charged Water Gel, it's a great texture with a bouncy jelly like consistency that glides on to my dry skin beautifully without being sticky or pore clogging. Due to the strength of the corrective ingredients used in the kit alongside the simplicity and gentleness of formulas, it may be a bit harsh for very sensitive skin types unless you introduce the product slowly over time, or use it in conjunction with a heavier calming night cream. My only gripe is that the size of the bottles is quite small and makes it quite difficult to determine results of dark spots after they've been used for awhile, until you've emptied them, and it appears to have a definite fragrance which may not be ideal for all people. With that being said, it's a little much, but it's so luxury and travel friendly that it's a great gift or a no fuss travel system for those who'd like to experience clinical grade products.

4.5 stars. At first glance, I was honestly a little confused about why these particular products were grouped together in one 5-piece set. Four of the five products contain fairly active ingredients (Vitamin C, Retinol, and AHA/BHA exfoliants).I understand it's all to target dullness, dark spots, and fine lines but it's probably not a skincare set you use together in a routine every single day. I think splitting between AM/PM is where this kit can be optimized.Once I looked at it as an AM/PM system, it made a lot more sense.~So in the morning (AM), I like using the Essential-C Cleanser - gets my day started and smells really refreshing. Not drying at all! The Rapid Dark Spot serum fits nicely here too since Vitamin C pairs well with sunscreen and helps target discoloration and environmental damage.The standout for me is the Nutrient-Charged Water Gel. It has a lovely scent, feels bouncy and lightweight, and does a great job locking in hydration without feeling heavy. I have dry skin so of course it's a fav.At night (PM) I switch to either my nighttime cleanser or the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating cleanser a couple of times per week max.The Retinol Youth Renewal serum is definitely a PM product and is the one I'd reach for to help soften my fine lines. Then I follow with my other toner and moisturizer again.~I think this works best as a bare bone travel-sized AM/PM skincare kit rather than a strict step-by-step routine.Everything is geared toward improving dullness, uneven tone, and signs of aging, but you'll get better results by alternating products rather than layering all the actives together.My only real complaint is that the Water Gel is the product I enjoyed most, and it's also the one I'm likely to run out of first. I wish that one had been a little larger, it's adorably itty bitty.~The travel bag is really cute too! Soft velvety texture with the most beautiful green, looks fancy. Only thing is the logo backend from the inside looks a little cheapy.
