Purchased the Now Foods Kelp Supplement To assist with hair loss. My hairstylist recommended I include it in my diet, apparently many people use Kelp to assist with this. Kelp is high in iodine, which our bodies require. The US would add high quantities of iodine to our salt, but over time they have decreased it. Unfair this causes our body to have an iodine deficit (i know, I'm a dork). Thankfully Kelp and other forms of seafood are high in iodine;) The pill is a gelcap. medium in size and easy to swallow. Slight aftertaste but not enough to be bothersome. I use this supplement when my diet is low in iodine, or low in seafood. I feel it does help and my hair loss has definitely decreased. I also use a haircare line with Kelp in it.

I am a senior. As such, I know that our bodies change as we grow. I keep up with my doctors visits, including routine blood evaluations. I have told my doc that my hair is falling out, I am tired, and I am gaining weight. As usual, the response is "age", even though my TSH (that measures how hard your thyroid is working) is normal. Being a nurse, I can't see how the "norm" for a young person can be the same for a senior...it doesn't make sense. I had been waking up late in the morning, and falling asleep in the afternoon. I do all my own yard work for 1/2 acre, here in Florida, so it is non stop. So, I figured my thyroid just needed a little kick (figuratively)...like, jump start. I researched the effect of iodine, and found that 150 MICROGRAMS is the dose to use, NOT 150 MILLIGRAMS, as is sold by others (my hubby took the 150 milligram tabs, and his PSA skyrocketed, so, no more of that dose). Anyway, I have been taking the Kelp for about a week, now. Within a couple of days, I noticed I was not even tired in the afternoon...not even even remotely. I have a lot more energy,....so much so I have lost 5 pounds since I started taking this. I wish doctors would realize that some seniors do need a little mor umph in their diet, that should not be from caffeine or colas. I will keep this up, and I will tell my doc about it, too, and my reasons for taking it.

I didn't even think that my thyroid was the cause of feeling run down and I unable to sleep. My skin has also been extremely dry. Then, I realize I don't have iodine in my diet. I can't have shellfish or iodized salt. So I only use sea salt or Himalayan salt which doesn't contain iodine. But, your body needs it from some sources to survive. And I love seaweed. I had taken sea kelp a few years ago and loved the benefits and how much better it made me feel. So, this is my first week back on it. It tastes like the Pacific Ocean. Not bad. I can tell you that my energy has immediately been restored and I am beginning to sleep better.***It is now 2 months later and I have been taking this sea kelp supplement every morning like clockwork. My energy has been restored and my overall well-being has improved. If your in your 40's this supplement is a game changer for women. Great product! I will continue to use it.

A friend of mine told me she started taking kelp and felt she had more energy and didn't feel as depressed and tired all the time. I did some reading up on kelp and I was like, hmmm, maybe I ought to try this. I was apprehensive about the arsenic in kelp, but further reading has me feeling that the levels are extremely low and going with a reputable company was recommended. This is why I chose this particular brand and bottle. Readings I found said the daily recommended intake of iodine should be 150 mcg per day. Several manufacturers sell higher mcg and I am just personally not comfortable with that.I have been taking the kelp supplement once a day for about 2-3 weeks now and I have to say I am happy! Why? Because I am not tired all the time anymore! At work, about halfway into my day, I would practically be falling asleep. I would feel so run down and just want to take a nap. I was drinking up to 2 cans of Mt Dew a day and that did absolutely nothing. When I told my co-worker how much better I felt taking the kelp, she said she noticed that the last few days I wasn't complaining and saying how tired I was. I am trying to be healthier overall, so I bought a fruit infusion water bottle so I could drink water without using flavored packets and am down to 1 soda a day.I am not saying that kelp is a super drug or anything, but it certainly has helped me with my energy levels, so it is very possible I did/do have an iodine deficiency. For the price, you get almost a years supply (200 tablets/365 days in a year), so that is very exciting too. To only spend approximately $18 a year (2 bottles) to feel better, is beyond worth it!They don't leave an after taste. They are larger tablets, so if you have trouble with swallowing pills, you may have to cut in half or something.Well, like I said, this is just my personal result with taking these supplements.
