    Does the job wonderful

Quite pleased with this amazing radio. This so far unmentioned behavior results in a major threshold enhancement plus essentially eliminates adjacent channel splatter. The behavior I describe applies to the Tecsun full DSP models with that ingenious chip.I haven't applied the PL-380 long enough away from the batteries, but I can tell you that the KA1102 with three 2Ah AA batteries will only run a compact matter of hours before recharge is necessary. The tuning arrangement is extremely convenient and better thought out than that of my Kaito 1102. Probably does the job OK in those countries with LW broadcasting as those stations are regularly highly powerful. The PL-380 is far easier to use in hand than the Kaito. Plus again there's the handy nuanced PL-380 signal strength indication.SW performance is very good. The PL-380 is the hotter receiver. On LW the PL-380 is very insensitive, but that's not a practical issue. I saw that extremely strong nearby FM signals can desense the front end of both receivers, but that hasn't been a practical issue so far.AM band performance is nice, plus the adjustable bandwidth is a wonderful touch. The PL 380 speaker audio quality is acceptable. When you shop Tecsun radios note that not all models use the SiLabs receiver chip as this one does. As well the high resolution "dBu" and "dB S/N" signal strength indication is handy for snap signal comparisons among FM stations. It's a serious power hog. It should since it is a far simpler design. The bottom line is that I like the PL-380 so much more than my two Kaito KA1102 radios that I've set the latter around the house as little local radios and will be using the PL-380 as my primary portable. Due to design sophistication the PL-380 FM performance is very noticeably better than my Kaito KA1102, which was already quite solid. Won't rehash the content of other reviews but will mention a couple of things that I find most notable. One reason for this is that the radio dynamically adjusts the detected bandwidth according to signal strength. The PL-380 is noticeably more sensitive than my KA1102 plus the bandwidth is adjustable as with AM. I can't get a single aircraft beacon station on it and can with other receivers. The KA1102 does have a functional BFO so CW and SSB reception is possible, but I extremely seldom employ that, so it wasn't a consideration. Still, others report that the PL-380 has very nice battery life. My KA1102's are a 10 year worn design that has been overtaken in the march of technology. I'm a radio amateur and an SBE CPBE broadcast engineer.FM performance is outstanding. The KA1102 is not the radio to take on a multi-day backwoods trip. The KA1102 may be just slightly more sensitive on AM, but both radios are remarkably adequate in my opinion.

    So very straightforward to apply

Nicely I wasn't sure about a review because the first radio we obtained did not work. My wife functions in the laundry chamber at a motel and I Was concerned about reception. Controls are uncomplicated and effortless to operate. The speaker puts out great sound for The price. Contacted Dropy to return it for a replacement and got it in a few days this radio operates fine. Not a problem, it receives all the stations clearly. It would not turn on.

Am amazed at how decent this is

Greatest little radio/MP3 player I've obtained so far! I will obtain again when this one dies. I LOVE the 'old fashioned' look it has. stations clearly, and doesn't sound 'tinny'. Incredibly pleased! It's is agreeable and loud when you play MP3's (I play sermons) or the radio. Some radios truly suck when you try to employ the A.M. It can take 2 D batteries too if you want, but the rechargeable battery that comes with it seems fine and last quite a while. I like how you can plug it into a USB C wall charger and charge it up until the 'charge light' changes to let you know it's ready to employ again. This is the second one I purchased this year, but this one has a nice dial on the forepart that stays lit in yellow, and gives it a COOL 1940's look. band, but this one is sharp and picks up a lot of A.M.
