    Interesting updates

I'll start by saying that Raddy's after-sales support is excellent, and for this reason alone, purchasing one of their products is extra valuable. When you buy a product like this, consider why it is important. My radio was replaced under warranty without any problems and in fact Raddy proved very responsive in solving the problems. The new radio will be tested soon but I am very satisfied with the purchase, a real guaranteeI can also tell you that I have always been satisfied with the use of the RF919 which has often proven to be a more capable radio receiver than some SDRs.Very interesting radio, I don't have to tell you anything different from what other people tell you in the many reviews of the product that you find on YouTube and online. But I have a few things to point out to you, and I think they're interesting things for you to know.First point the firmware version. As you can see from the image, the firmware version is a more updated version than the one currently found on the official raddy website.Second point, quality control. The radio was in its cardboard box with accessories sealed by a transparent plastic bag with a quality seal. This way it is easy to understand if the radio is new or used. The instructions on colored cardboard, those with the wiring diagram (schematic), are missing but you can download them from the official raddy website.I think it's a slightly updated hardware version, I haven't checked for the presence of two separate power batteries.Problems with the 3.5mm jacks. The external ferrite antenna is difficult to use because when inserted it remains crooked and turning it to find the maximum signal is problematic and risks damaging the small 3.5 connector , female connector. The antenna connector behind the radio also has the same problem, they seem really low quality and don't give a great feeling of quality, they seem like they could break at any moment.I confirm what was said by another person who bought the radio here on Dropy. The jack connector of the wire antenna supplied with the radio as an accessory is difficult to insert and, above all, difficult to remove.I think it's a problem with the radio connectors being too tight or incorrectly applied.Further small observations. The external ferrite antenna offers no gain in medium wave, impossible to tell you if LW works better than the original antennaThe receiver has great sensitivity in medium waves and also picks up nearby electrical noise. It's not a defect but a feature of a radio that I assure you is cheap for what it offers (it's not regulated, it's true, but a real receiver costs figures with a few zeros more).Currently under testing, if I notice any more things that might be of interest to you I will update the review.P.SI add, the radio has serious tuning problems in USB and LSB.The signal attenuator command appears to be reversed, a firmware issue?

High standard, adequately built to last, properly priced

Living in Florida, we occasionally have hurricanes which knocks out the power. On the upper are buttons for switching radio bands, turning the light on and off, switching between radio and white noise mode, and to turn on the backlight on the forward to determine how much power you have left and to measure the audio levels. On the back you have a switch to activate SOS mode which creates a loud alarm sound and rapidly turns the flashlight on and off for emergencies. You can also utilize this radio as an emergency power bank by flipping that same switch to turn the ports on the backside of the radio, above the solar panel, into charging ports. On the side you can switch between radio, Bluetooth, or USB drive modes with ease. It also has a built in flashlight and compass. It's impeccable for everyday utilize as well as emergency employ. As it says on the tin, it has a solar panel for charging, a crank for manual charging, or can be charged using a direct plug-in on the back with an included USB cable. I think you'd be better off loading higher caliber white noise onto a dedicated memory stick and using that if white noise is something that you simply must have with a radio but that's by no means a deal breaker for me. This radio is like a Swiss Army Knife of radios. An magnificent selection for either regular and emergency work with alike. The White Noise options though are kinda "meh." as they're all short, looping, sounds that come preloaded onto the radio. The pictures do make it seem smaller than it really is and it's a little on the substantial side but that's fine.On the whole, a very good choice for a portable emergency radio. I've not tested the Bluetooth since I seldom apply that in general with radios but that's just me. So if you want it fully charged before a storm, you have plenty of options. So a portable, emergency radio is a good thing to have around. But you can plug in a custom thumb drive of music and play it via this radio fairly simply, with a play/pause and seek buttons to control the playback.Radio signal wise its incredibly good and could pick up stations quite properly. As shown on the piece page, it does come with a lovely plastic case with foam interior, perfect for storing the radio, the included cable, and the instruction manual with ease.

    Great Battery and reception

If you've owned any of the previous iterations of this slim little handheld receiver (Tecsun PL360/CountyComm GP-5 DSP, and Tecsun PL365/CountyComm GP-5 SSB) then you know what a joy it is to report that it finally has a direct entry frequency keypad to get where you need to go instantly! I almost always apply that little antenna for MW listening but exploring this feature has shown me that in my area now and then the telescopic whip antenna brings in a improved signal on some MW stations at certain times than the little ferrite... The USB to micro-USB charging cable IS included, however. Of course, in any mode or band, using nice headphones will sound much fuller and richer than the little stock speaker. All previous versions utilized 3xAA batteries, but now it uses a thin BL-5C lithium rechargeable battery. I wouldn't want to plug a whole lot of antenna into this little, effortlessly overloaded thing but being able to toggle that if I want to experiment is handy indeed. There is much more but I just want to make the point that if you already know and relish this style of receiver, you will absolutely cherish this latest and greatest version (that keypad, what a surprise!).If you have never gave a try this style receiver, well, now might be a genuinely nice time to finally take an $80 to $90 plunge and find out. I will not be bothering with it, and will rather apply the ECSS method which I can already assure you is better than the synch by far, specifically now that there are those bandwidth filter options for SSB.It offers an updated version of their popular ETM memory tuning attribute, now called ETM+, which according to Tecsun "gives the possibility of setting up time-specific memories for longwave, medium wave (AM) and shortwave." I realized the earlier ETM attribute to be very helpful on the local MW and FM stations when traveling, but have yet to implement this ETM+ version so I can't add to that.FM is without question on par for this receiver style, as good as the previous iterations, mono on board but stereo at the headphone out. This detail alone is worth the acquire! This receiver line up has every time been praised by users, not for being all that "great" or mind-blowing but simply for doing so much so nicely for something so small and straightforward. so being able to switch to the whip is very helpful. It charges from a standard 5V/500mA USB charger. The charger is not included, by the way, but that's probably a good thing these days, as most of us have more than enough cube USB chargers laying about (generally unused most of the time) anyway. better components?) but in side-by-side, direct comparisons with my PL360 and GP-5 SSB on the same signals and bandwidths the PL368 simply sounds clearer, cleaner, a bit warmer too (not as brittle or hissy).Tecsun has added synch detection but regrettably they seem to keep missing the boat pretty badly in that department in all their models (the PL660 seems to be the lone relative success in Tecsun's synch implementation). It locks pretty well but is just kind of dirty sounding. How long does a charge get you in listening time? Well, I have not used the receiver enough to be remarkably accurate on this point but I've had it powered up while learning its ins and outs as well as just listening for at least two to three hours each day the last three days, and the battery indicator on the display still reads full. At this price, in this slim little package, with all it does properly (and not despite any limitations but by improved design), I think this will be a popular model when enough people discover it. No more scrolling and scrolling and scrollllllling that danged thumbwheel! I prefer replaceable rechargeable batteries but so far this little battery pack seems to be extremely efficient, and its apply without question makes the radio slimmer and lighter than ever. There are numerous hidden features (visit The SWLing Post and RadioJayAllen to research in detail); one of them is extremely handy for we who appreciate external antennas -- you can toggle between the whip antenna or the external antenna jack (used for the included little ferrite MW antenna that indeed peaks and nulls as you turn it!). I don't know what they did (finer stock speaker? They are not going to outperform their larger siblings from Tecsun but these little guys have all been extremely solid radios, especially for their size (and price point)! And now the PL368 is smoothly the greatest iteration of this line up, not just for the direct entry keypad (tuning around was a total pain in the thumbwheel until now!), but for other improvements over previous models, am pleased with selectable bandwidths for each mode (enjoy 2.5, 3.5, 5 or 9kHz in AM, or 0.5, 1.2, 2.2, 3 or 4 kHz in SSB).There seems to have been some improvement in the audio chain as nicely. This one's no exception -- it is overly filtered and needlessly harsh and irritating.

    Solid performer!

The Sony ICF-P27 is a high-standard radio with nice design, case materials, and dials. The claimed battery life is high but I haven't tested that.Sony's bigger radios appreciate the ICF-506 would be better choices for desktop situations (plug into the mains, bigger antennas, bigger speaker, etc.). It is surprisingly little and portable. The reception and sound craftsmanship are good, considering the measurements of the speaker and antennas.
