I did some research about retinols and retinals, because I wasn't familiar with the difference. As far as I understand, retinals may provide faster results. Since this serum is advanced, I am starting out with applying one time a week, in the evenings after my regular skincare. I apply this after cleaning and toner, let it sit and absorb, and then finish with my gentle barrier cream. As always, I make sure to apply sunscreen in the mornings, which is especially important when incorporating retinoids in a skincare routine. It absorbs into my skin easily and doesn't feel greasy on. The serum is a yellowish color and has a barely perceptible smell. I haven't had any issues with irritation or redness. My face feels soft and smooth. I appreciate the simple design, the easy-to-read black text with ingredients clearly listed on the small-sized tube, and that it's a fragrance-free and cruelty-free skin product.
I've been really enjoying The INKEY List Advanced Retinol Serum because it has such a smooth, lightweight texture that fits easily into my evening skincare routine. The combination of 0.2% retinol, 0.2% retinal, and 2% Sirtalice makes the formula feel thoughtfully designed for a more advanced retinoid step while still being comfortable to apply. It spreads easily over the skin and absorbs without leaving a heavy or greasy finish, and I like following it with moisturizer to keep my routine feeling balanced. With consistent use, my skin looks smoother, softer, and more refreshed, with a more even and polished appearance. I also appreciate how easy it is to layer this into a simple nighttime routine without adding unnecessary steps. Overall, this is a lovely serum for anyone looking to incorporate both retinol and retinal into their skincare routine and wanting a lightweight formula that leaves the skin looking smooth, healthy, and well cared for.
This is a retinal serum which is a bit different than the retinol serums I have used. It is supposed to be even stronger and work even faster than retinol. I started using the serum every other evening to get my skin accustomed to it and I am really glad that I have had no irritation, redness or peeling since using it. The serum has a yellow color as most retinoids do and has no scent that I can detect. The serum has a smooth texture that is easy to spread on the skin and it absorbs well. I make sure I use a really good moisturizing cream over the top and always wear sunscreen during the day. I think this is a really effective and affordable retinal serum for people like me who have been using beginner retinoids and want to step up their skincare game.
This is a very powerful retinal serum. I would recommend that you introduce it slowly into your routine if you are not used to retinoids. Start with once a week, then twice, then more often. But note that most research says you don't necessarily have to do it every day to get all the benefits. What impressed me about this serum was the strength. There was a time when all the products out there were about 0.05 retinal and if you got to 0.1 that was amazing. This inkey list serum clocks in at 0.2!!! It comes really close to a prescription tret levels. I'm used to using strong retinoids so I acclimated to it pretty fast. I'm not too sure I see the benefits of sirtalice yet but I do appreciate the other ingredients in here like the cucumber and fermented extracts. The texture is also a very nice yellow-y serum that's not too heavy for layering. There is no scent. Overall, very excellent and impressive. (If this irritates you, try applying moisturizer first then the serum. Sometimes that helps you to acclimate to the retinal)

Yes, retinal (retinaldehyde) is generally considered stronger and more efficient than retinol. Retinol requires two metabolic conversion steps within the skin to become active retinoic acid, whereas retinal only requires one step, allowing it to work up to 11 times faster.
No, this high-strength 0.2% retinal formula is specifically designed for experienced retinoid users whose skin has already acclimated to lower-strength vitamin A derivatives. Beginners should start with a lower concentration, such as The INKEY List Starter Dual Retinol Serum.
Experienced users can eventually build up to nightly use, but it should initially be introduced slowly at 2 to 3 times per week. Monitor your skin for dryness or irritation and ensure you use a rich moisturizer alongside it.

Yes, the 0.2% encapsulated retinal accelerates skin cell turnover, which sheds damaged, hyperpigmented cells faster. Over time, this process helps fade stubborn dark spots, acne scars, and sun damage for an even skin tone.
