Adequately-Engineered and Constructed. Attribute Hefty - Nicely-thought-out Emergency Device.
This is the 2nd Hand Crank Emergency Radio I have purchased (Live in Earthquake Country) - The last one seemed good out of the box - but was near-useless by the time the first power outage situation hit.Out of the Box, this unit is already better. I will have to see how it stands up over time. The Lights are Very Bright. Offers a Lo/ Hi Beam Spot and a more diffuse Area Flashlight throw. The flip-up reading light is crazy bright, so it can also be used as a lead light. The SOS light is also super- bright... and will definitely make you visible from a decent distance in an emergency. The SOS alarm is LOUD - just like the Radio. Surprisingly so. This unit is smaller than the one I had previously, yet the radio seems 2x as loud! And it is not a throw-away AM/FM / Weather radio - with the antenna up /slight turnng, it pulls in most stations quite static-free and clearly - again, with great volume for such a small profile. And even with all that - The Most impressive thing about this radio is the charging - it's one thing to have a couple of ports... but to be able to charge other devices in so many ways - and the cords are Built Into the device! That tells you Everything you need to know. The people who built this, understood that a feature is useless in an emergency... if you can't find the accessories you need to actually use it! You can also Fast Charge - or, use the USB cable - again, built directly into the Unit!Like most of these Emergency Radio/ Lanterns - the Unit has a hand-crank for Radio/ Lights and Charging. My last one did as well out the box, but when the time came to actually use the crank-generated light.... no matter how fast, long I turned it, the light would completely go out once I stopped cranking - Useless Waste of $!I guess we will see how this one does in time - but already... The Lights (Both front and the Additional Reading) are WAY Brighter and varied, the Radio is Way Louder - The SOS is Super-Loud and Bright - Very effective - and the connections to Charge itself and other Devices are Well-thought-out and Executed - even the storage of those cords is Super Smart... a Great little Unit.At $59+ it is more expensive than my other unit, but when the lights went out and I grabbed than one and ran out on the patio...I couldn't use it as a light, or a radio - so it was a complete waste of money. I have a feeling this one will not be.
