FAQs
What is a bland diet for a sick dog?
A bland diet is an easily digestible, low-fat meal typically recommended by veterinarians to soothe a dog's upset stomach, vomiting, or diarrhea. It usually consists of simple starches and lean proteins, like chicken and white rice, to allow the gastrointestinal tract to rest and recover.
Can I feed my dog a bland diet forever?
No, a bland diet is not formulated to provide complete and balanced long-term nutrition for a healthy dog. It should only be fed temporarily for 24 to 48 hours during digestive distress, or until stools return to normal, before gradually transitioning back to regular dog food.
What symptoms is your dog experiencing that require a bland diet?
A bland diet is ideal for dogs experiencing acute gastrointestinal symptoms such as sudden vomiting, loose stools, diarrhea, or a temporary loss of appetite due to mild stomach upset. Always consult your veterinarian if symptoms persist or if your dog is lethargic.
