What is a marking harness?
A marking harness is a device fitted onto a breeding ram that holds a colored crayon block against its chest. When the ram mounts an ewe, it leaves a distinct color mark on her rump to indicate breeding activity and successful heat detection.
How to put on a sheep marking harness?
To put on the harness, guide the straps around the ram's chest and shoulders, securing them comfortably using the quick-release buckles and slide adjustments. Ensure the angled crayon plate rests flat against the chest before turning the ram out with the flock.
Why do sheep have harnesses on?
Sheep producers use marking harnesses on rams to track breeding patterns, identify which ewes have been serviced, and accurately predict lambing dates for flock management.
