I ordered Auburn Red, followed the directions and my hair came out bright red. I will buy this in a different color when my hair needs doing again as this works really well. My hair color I call it mousy brown with a lot of gray and is stubborn when it comes to hair dyes and perms so I left it on for the full 90 minutes. It suggests 60 to 90 minutes on the box. I have very short hair and only needed one packet (it comes with 2) actually I could of used 1/2 a packet but since this was my first time trying this I did what the directions said. You will need gloves, shower cap or plastic wrap I used plastic wrap and that worked well. I like that this is chemical free, didn't smell and odor. If you have a full head of hair that's gray this color will cover it well. Don't rip the box open the directions are on the inside you will need to use scissors to cut it on the dotted line.
Edit: it says I used auburn. I used the warm chestnut I love this stuff. It takes some trial and error to find the right color, but it's worth it. I've landed on warm chestnut for now. My hair is naturally chestnut with grey. I'd used regular Herbatint for years but turned to these because I've developed chemical sensitivities. Also, I was hoping for coverage that was less heavy/flat and for something that didn't damage my hair. This exceeded my expectations. It turns my greys into highlights and makes my colored hair just slightly richer. (dream come true) I've gotten more compliments with this than any other hair coloring I've ever used. A fancy Hollywood hair stylist even thought it was natural. Some things I didn't know until I tried it: -It does fade into a less-pretty color toward the end of the month. But because I have prominent, fast-growing grey patches around my face, I color every 4 weeks anyway. (and I CAN color more frequently because it doesn't damage my hair and scalp) -If you're switching from conventional dye to this, it will be brighter and more saturated on previously dyed areas of your hair. - most months I just hit my roots because the henna-based color builds up intensity, and I like it more mellow. - that said, if you don't get strong coverage on the first try with this dye, a second round should do the trick. - one box then gives me a few months of grey coverage. (I left the dog in the pic because she's adorable and also has great natural highlights. :)
About 10% of my hair is a very bright white. Not gray, but white. It is mainly in my middle part and along my temples. I noticed I had a lot of hair fall when I would use conventional hair coloring and wanted something that would give me coverage without making my hair fall out. I have been using henna and indigo colors to keep my very white hairs blended for about a year. I've tried varying different brands from here on Dropy and from other locations. Before using Herbatint Henna Color Organic Hair Dye, I had colored my hair using pure henna, giving it a reddish orange hue and make my white hairs a translucent coppery kind of look. Herbatint Henna Color Organic Hair Dye in Rich Brown helped to blend my white hairs and gave my hair an even, rich brown color. I followed the instructions using both packets, applying it for 90 minutes. It managed to cover some of my white hairs but didn't quite get them all. The directions state to use a two-step method of using pure henna and following up with this brown color. If you have very stubborn white hair and want full coverage, I would say this is the way to go. While I am very happy with my hair color, this alone will not cover stubborn white hair.
I am allergic to to everything. I have MCAS and my hair coloring reactions are so severe that I tend to have scalp burn, hives and bronchitis/pneumonia eventually after every every professional color. I did not have a reactions. I do not care as much about the tones. It colors without making me sick. I thought I was reacting to red even with the "safe" products. It turns out it was all the other ingredients! I am so happy. :)
