While I don't love the inclusion of silicones in high-end skincare (although many people do), and I don't love the use of Phenoxyethanol as a preservative, I accept that Sulwhasoo is a luxury commercial brand, but a commercial brand nonetheless. They aren't a clean brand and they have never claimed to be. As such, they also include fragrance, and it's quite high on the ingredient list (meaning there is a lot of it).Scents are polarizing; there are as many people who love this scent as those who find it overpowering. For me, it is a light, woodsy musk that I find very comforting and not overly masculine (but I believe scent is gender-neutral and I am a woman who loves to smell like trees). I also find the scent fades quickly after application, so it isn't the kind of thing another person will smell when up close to your face. It's more to make application a spa-like experience, though be sure to monitor for any signs of irritation or sensitization.If you are new to Korean skincare, you may be wondering what an emulsion is. An emulsion is like a watery lotion; it is sometimes paired with a thicker/richer moisturizer, but it is often enough on its own for some skin types and climates. This one is very rich despite being thin, and I've even used it alone on my dry, dehydrated skin in very low humidity winter temperatures and still stayed hydrated throughout the day. It's balanced enough that it should work for both dry and oily skin types, as the alcohol shouldl help acne-prone types from being overwhelmed by the richness. That said, I believe there is a gel moisturizer in this same line that might be a better match for oily or acne-prone types who find this too heavy.I've used this now multiple times and in conjunction with various other products as part of a multi-step skincare routine, and it has gotten along well with all of them. It absorbs well, locks in moisture from previous products, and leaves a glow without greasiness, tackiness, or shine. It's an excellent product despite the shortcomings I mentioned at the start of my review.I highly recommend this, especially for minimalists (men or women) who want a product that does several things at once. It's possible to use this, a cleanser, and sunscreen as your only products, but if you do, be sure to apply this while your skin is still damp to get the most out of this product. With regular use, your skin will be softer, more hydrated, and brighter with a natural glow from all the nourishing ingredients. I think it's worth the asking price.Hope that helps!

  Awesome for men! (And women too…)

  So we've been using this Sulwhasoo Emulsion for men for a little over a week now. For my son, it makes his skin smooth and hydrated. His acne scars have softened slightly. Perhaps with longer continued use it will soften the enough where they won't be noticeable except for up close.He loves the scent. It's definitely a masculine scent but it's not overbearing. The scent also fades pretty quickly so he doesn't have to worry about it drowning out his chosen cologne scent.For me (female) this emulsion works great, too. It also smooths and hydrates my skin. I don't mind the scent as I like gourmand scents anyway so it's right up my alley. And again, it fades quickly so I won't be smelling manly all day unless it's because of my chosen perfume.The formula itself is not a thick formula. It's a bit thin so it doesn't take a lot to spread over your whole face. It's best to use this right out of the shower so it soaks in real well and leaves your skin so soft.This is a great quality Korean face product and a great value for the results. I would get it again in a heartbeat.

  Quality men's skincare

  It seems to be rare to find actual, real, men's skincare sometimes. I've recently started using a lot of Korean skincare products and decided my husband should join me on this journey.He wasn't enthusiastic at first, but agreed to try it. I think the masculine look of the bottle and definitely the masculine scent got him on board a bit more. After using it for a few days, I noticed he automatically started to reach for it after his shower. He says his skin feels much better and less dry after using it. The dry winter air has been taking its toll on everyone.I have noticed that, while the product has a nice, woodsy, masculine scent coming out of the bottle, it seems to fade once it soaks in. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially for someone that already has a favorite cologne that they would rather shine through.While it's a little pricey for moisturizer, you honestly can't beat the quality of Korean skincare products. There is obviously a lot of research and development that goes into these things. I received this in January of 2026 and it doesn't expire until April of 2028, so it has a nice long shelf life.Happy to have found something my husband is willing to use!
