Product details

The Ruffwear Hitch Hiker Dog Leash in Sunny Lime is an outdoor adjustable leash and hitching system built for hands-free hiking, camping, and backcountry exploration. Engineered with climbing-inspired reflective kernmantle rope measuring 12 feet (3.7 meters), this versatile system seamlessly transitions from a standard or waist-worn leash to a secure portable tether around trees or posts.

Designed for pet parents who demand durability and ease on the trail, the system features an ergonomic HitchLock rope adjuster with a built-in brake. This allows effortless, on-the-fly length adjustments and tension locking under load. A swiveling, low-profile, and lockable Crux Clip provides a secure single-handed connection to your dog's harness or collar. An integrated, water-repellent hip pouch neatly stows excess rope slack and holds the entire assembly when not in use. Sourced directly from the USA, this premium gear offers exceptional reliability for active dogs and owners.

  1. Adjust the stowable waist strap to wear the leash hands-free, or hold the handle manually.
  2. To switch to a hitching system, wrap the rope around a sturdy tree or post and lock the HitchLock adjuster to maintain desired tension.
  3. Attach the swiveling Crux Clip to your dog's harness or collar attachment point, ensuring the lock mechanism is fully engaged.
  4. Stow excess rope slack inside the integrated hip pouch during movement.

Polypropylene and nylon kernmantle rope, anodized 6061-T6 aluminum Crux Clip hardware, plastic HitchLock component, water-repellent nylon stow bag shell.

    Best leash ever!

Best leash ever. I love this thing! It works like a climbing rope & positioner, so if you're an outdoor enthusiast or a climber like me, this is the dog leash for you! My dog loves the fact that she can run circles around me & I love the fact that I have my hands free & that she can stay close by without getting too tangled up. This leash is worth every penny. You can adjust it from 0" to 10 feet, so it has plenty of range for you to adventure anywhere with your furry four legged companion. I chose the slate blue/grey color with the hi viz green rope leash. It's perfect, & nothing is these days, so I'm truly blown away by the build quality of this leash. My dog loves to pull & the positioner lock has been put to the test & endured with no issues for over 4 months now. I'm very happy with my purchase & would recommend it to anyone! Very easy to attach & adjust for comfort, rope is highly visible even at night!

Excellent lead, strong adjustable and easy to use. Hsve been using 3 times a day for about 8 months.

We've been using this item for several months now, several times a day with our very strong greyhound/GSD cross. She is a strong dog. We love the non stretch fixed nature of the product. The lead does not auto retract which is preferable to us. The locking mechanism is strong and very easy to use. The lead can be held as its quite a thick cord so you have excellent control of the dog. Its just the right length, I like to set it for about 6' and my partner prefers the full lead out. Its really helpful when walking several dogs. The waist strap could be better, its quite thin and rides up to your waist which can be uncomfortable if a small furry appears! However, a great product and would replace tomorrow if this one broke, however its very durable.

    Always love Ruffwear

This leash is so perfect for hiking or park days where you can give your dog the freedom but still be responsible & have them on leash! Originally bought for hiking since my lil guy is faster than me and I didnt want him pulling me down some of the trickier areas but now I use it on neighbourhood walks to give him more length. I do wish there was more storage but its still great!

This leash is EVERYTHING that is wonderful!

I can't remember the last time I bought a product I was so pleased with, I love my pups but walking them always seemed like such a chore with lots of challenges such and pulling and entanglements as we are still training. This leash changed my life! We frequent places like Bend, Oregon where they are very dog friendly, you can bring your dogs everywhere. The ability to change the lead leash with ease even while using is a game changer, a short lead for busy streets, sidewalks, and public areas where I need them to stay close, safe and not tangle, a long lead for trails and parks where I want to give them more room to explore and it's so easy to change between the options. The ability to put it around my waste has trained them not to pull in less than 24 hours and took the stress out of the training for me. They were getting pulled back by my weight with no bother to me and getting "automatic" training not to pull themselves instead of pulling my arms out of the sockets. I'm not sure what the reviewer was talking about it only being able to be worn on the left, I think that the bad reviews are user error, you can just scoot the belt around your waist and position the lead where ever you like, right, left, back, front....I have two dogs, bought two of these and put one on the left hip and one on the right and do a short lead so they don't tangle when walking both of them by myself. Then having the added ability to be hands free is so liberating, I can drink water, check my phone, order food or drinks, carry food or drinks. Then having the added ability to hitch them to a tree, picnic bench or what have you while resting or eating somewhere makes this an all in one problem solver. Again, this isn't just the best leash I've used it's also the most ingeniously engineered product I have used in a long time. KUDOS Ruffwear keep up the great work. Loving your products!!
